About the Public Relations Student Society of America:
The Public Relations Student Society of America (www.prssa.org), headquartered in New York, is the world’s pre-eminent, pre-professional public relations organization. Founded in 1968 by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the organization has grown to more than 10,000 members at more than 300 Chapters across the United States and one Chapter in Argentina. PRSSA membership benefits include scholarships and awards; and internship, job and professional development opportunities.

The Society’s mission is to serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities; and to serve the public relations

Background
The Missouri State Chapter of PRSSA was established on January 12, 2007. This Chapter is affiliated with the National Public Relations Student Society of America. Members include any undergrad and/or graduate students at Missouri State who are either public relations major or have shown an interest in public relations. This Chapter is also affiliated with the Southwest Missouri PRSA. This is a restructuring year for our Chapter coming back to striving to be that link between college and career for the young PR professionals.

Public Affairs
In Action

The Missouri State Chapter of PRSSA puts the Public Affairs mission into action in the Springfield community. Many members enjoy volunteering at events to benefit local charities.

In the school year 2010-2011, PRSSA volunteered for these events/charities:
·         The Discover Center’s Halloween event
·         Talbot’s Fashion Show to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest and packed food boxes for OFH.
·         Wine Tastings for GYN Cancer Alliance
·         Beerfest for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
